Homemade Bread: Easy Recipe Without a Machine

I-Ingredients

– 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

– 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)

– 1 1/4 cups warm water

– 2 tablespoons granulated sugar

– 1 1/2 teaspoons salt

– 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened

II-Bread Making

– Start by activating the yeast, in a separate bowl mix the yeast with the warm water and sugar and leave it for at least 5 minutes to become frothy and bubbly.

– In a large bowl, mix the flour, salt, and butter. Then add the activated yeast mixture.

– Make sure both your hands are clean before starting to knead the dough. When it becomes smooth and elastic.

III-Preparing the Loaf

– Shape the dough in the form of a ball, put it in a bowl, then cover the bowl with a damp cloth. Leave the dough to rise in a warm place for around 1 to 1.5 hours.

– Once risen punch the dough to release excess air, then shape it into a loaf by folding the edges under and pinching them together, you can use some flour to help you through the process.

– Place the loaf in a cake mold lined with parchment paper.

– Use a sharp knife to draw the pattern of your choice on the bread loaf.

– Cover the loaf with a damp cloth and leave it to rise again for 30–45 minutes.

IV-Baking the Homemade Loaf

– The oven should be preheated to 375 °F.

– Once the loaf has risen, remove the damp cloth and put it in the preheated oven.

– Bake the bread for 25–30 minutes until the crust turns golden brown.

– Once ready, remove it from the oven and leave it to cool entirely before cutting.
